In this limelight - Dos Amigos bands
Dos Amigos hosted four bands last Saturday night. There is nothing quite like this amalgam of bar, outside gig venue, intimate gig venue, bull-riding arena and generally intriguing place that features everything from cow skulls to old surf boards on its walls. Many places try to have an atmosphere and in the trying lose any chance they have - Dos Amigos is a great place to hang out because it is what it is, and that can be just about anything you choose for it to be.
A laid-back atmosphere pervaded Dos Amigos as Last Place You Look took to the stage. It partly stemmed from the hot summer night gently descending just over the corrugated iron roof of one of the out-buildings, incongruously held in place by a large concrete block. Not many people had turned out for the evening - about a hundred or so - and they stood around in little eclectic groups. Some cheerful bikers laughing in one corner, a family with a son about 10 years old in another, a young teenage couple lost in one another just below the darkened main stage, and a lady who apparently had come straight from work wearing full hospital scrubs.
Last Place You Look played a few songs - probably the most interesting part of the set was the fact that the opening number led in with the Monty Python theme. Why? I didn't know. The audience didn't either, if their looks were anything to go by. Maybe the band themselves had only a vague clue - but it didn't matter, as it is raw energy that they seek in their music. If their occasional attempts at harmonizing voices are distinctly off, they make up for it through sheer volume and some thudding bass, guitar and drums work.
Next up was Electric Touch - a band featuring the youngest performers of the night and, fittingly, certainly the most promising. "Electric Touch" hails from a variety of places - front-man Shane Lawlor was raised in Nottingham, England, while others are American. Lawlor has a range of energy, style and performance that makes every song different. He exudes a sweat-soaked intensity, eyes half-lidded as if in another world. "Don't Stop" is a celebration of the joys of a one night stand, replete with clever lyrics like "you said you were star-crossed with no lover" and raw, sensual ones such as "time stops when I breathe you in, the world shakes when I touch your skin."
So Electric Touch gives off the sense of a band going somewhere - somewhere big.
The headlining acts - Authority Zero and Unwritten Law were entertaining enough, but obviously have reached whatever level they are going to. Authority Zero is most interesting in its vaguely less grunge-informed songs in which reggae beats appear. The band excelled in "Big Bad World,", an homage to the unemployed, and also "Rattlin' Bog," in which lead Jason De Vore sings as fast as I have ever heard in this adaptation of an old Irish drinking song.

That world, of course, is filled with smooth women, drinking and drugs. Guitarist Dan Bradner's rollicking Irish jig-inspired "Another Round" is the only song on the album not written by Hale. It's definitely a dancing song, with crowd noises mixed in,
“People really love that song as I think they can relate to the lyrics,” said Billie Jo. “It was written by a gentleman called Roger Bowling, who carried it around in his pocket for years, playing to lots of people in the record industry who just

The decades roll by, depicted in a series of quirky skits and punctuated by renditions of rock songs whose lyrics parody the absurdities of eras past. Act 1 is fluff itself: In "Sugar Pops, Captain Crunch," a group of 1950s teens croon their affection
